What’s Next (And Why I Hope You’ll Stick Around)
From the 40 Acres to the Future of DWWBYa, an announcement
I appreciate everyone who’s been on this journey with me over the past four years. You’ve seen me go from the frenzied, chaotic, irregular writings of a disillusioned salesman to the still sometimes frenzied and chaotic, but more regular, published writer.
I started writing about the Longhorns because I cared deeply about writing and Texas Football. Merging those passions was the best decision I’ve ever made, writing-wise. It opened doors, created connection, and led me to write and publish a book. Your support—and writing this newsletter—led me to the Inside Texas staff, a weekly YouTube show, and a radio spot with Trey Elling. I can’t thank you enough.

Throughout the sales process of the book, people have asked, “What’s next?” And honestly, sometimes I don’t know how to answer.
I’ve got a really exciting collaborative project coming with a former athlete, and I’ll continue writing at Inside Texas. But I also know I want to write about more than just Texas Football. When my writing is at its best, it’s honest, raw, and wide-ranging—from fanhood to fatherhood to fiction.
So, I don’t know exactly what this space will become. What I do know is all my Longhorns coverage will now live at Inside Texas. Bookmark my page there and subscribe to IT if that’s why you’re here. They have the best coverage on the Horns in the market. From recruiting to analysis to features, it’s a must subscribe for the Texas fan.

You won’t offend me if you unsubscribe from this newsletter. This is your one freebie.
But if you're here for more than just Longhorn football, I hope you'll stick around. I’m officially updating the Substack to be a paid publication. The name isn’t going anywhere though. Darrell Royalis-ms apply to a lot more in life than football.
I’ll still write about sports and fanhood—but also about being a dad, share some fiction, and throw in the occasional rambling. I don’t know what it’ll look like yet, but that’s why it’s only $6 a month. The cost of a coffee and a forced barista tip in Austin.
I’ll do my best to entertain you.
The first paid post drops Sunday morning: Lessons from Coach Pop. (I hope that sentence isn’t like flying an Obama flag out of a Subaru at Port Aransas). We’ll see.
Thank you all.
